Graphic Design
Originally a hypothetical e-commerce design exercise, the Milk of Human Kindness (MoHK) project has really blossomed into one of my all-time favorite pieces. Starting as an imaginary oat milk brand, I used the MoHK project as a springboard into the world of production art. Sometime after I had presented the MoHK piece, I became enamored by the design of food labels. I wanted to do an exploratory project, endeavoring to improve the readability and usefulness of food labels—at least in the US.
2020 Native Peoples of the Americas Colloquium (NPAC) event, "Land Back" hosted by the University of Dayton. The event theme that year revolved around the Land Back movement and the passionate work by artist Whess Harman. From UD's NPAC landing page: "The Native Peoples of the Americas Colloquium is an annual gathering that shines light on Indigenous Peoples’ history, culture and spirituality through presentations, films, performances and workshops. The Native Peoples of the Americas Colloquium is coordinated by a planning committee of University faculty and staff, and local indigenous scholars and activists."
As a graphic designer for the University of Dayton School of Engineering (SoE) assisting the Office of the Dean and the Technical Content Developer, my role was creating and maintaining promotional and internal documents/fliers. We mainly did print materials like flyers and event brochures, but I did get the opportunity to design a set of banners.
3D Art
A roughly 1:1 recreation of Bethesda's PipBoy prop from Fallout 76—modeled, lit, and textured.
I set out to update my portfolio as my personal brand evolves. I decided to stay with Webflow after looking into some Wordpress options. I still prefer Webflow's editor and toolset for my purposes. It gives me a lot of stylistic freedom that I don't think I would want to live without!
Move the mouse to rotate the bobby pin into place. Press and hold W on the keyboard to attempt to pick the lock. The closer the lock goes to being fully horizontal, the closer it is to being unlocked. Hold W too long and the bobby pin will break. Unlocking will generate a new lock and an additional attempt can be made.
Design a series of labels for a hypothetical winery of my choosing, paying close attention to brand cohesion, visibility (say, on a store shelf or among other bottles), and accessibility. Ultimately, what brings people to purchase certain products relies on brand recognition—so for a new product, it needs to stand out among the others to draw attention that it otherwise would not yet possess.
As an exercise in realism, I took to measuring and observing the form and content of an old lockbox my grandfather had gifted to me years ago. Using my digital calipers, I was able to made a quick rough mockup of the lockbox.
Taking from the themes and imagery from the selected texts, my main goal was to accurately represent and advertise these classics to both those that are familiar and those that have never had the chance to read the original books.
Designing products that are either tangentially related or part of a set under one designed brand. From the onset I knew I wanted to make something sustainably sourced. As it happened, I was interested in learning about real sustainable lifestyles and how composting and home gardens work. It seemed like something that warranted an evening of doing research, which is daunting to many people.
